Conclusions

The OCZ Gold XTC PC-4000 modules, while
primarily designed to target the gaming community, are modules that will
please both the hardcore enthusiast and overclocker as well. Paired
with the right components and some excellent cooling, you can truly unleash
the full capabilities of these memory modules and you will not be
disappointed. With games that are becoming more and more demanding and
with Windows VISTA on the horizon, jumping to a 2GB dual channel pair is a
wise investment. The performance results certainly do justify such an
upgrade or at least some consideration when building a new high-performance
system. Unlike our previous review of their modules, OCZ has managed
to put out a pair of moderately priced high performance modules that will
satisfy the overclocker and those looking for the ultimate performance from
their system. You can run them at lower 2.5 latency, while still
managing to overclock slightly. However, to achieve the highest
overclock, you will need to run them at their rated timings and may even
need to bump the voltage up to 2.9V for maximum stability. Let's not
forget the highly appealing heatspreaders. They honestly do work well
and manage to keep the sticks running nice and cool.
They earn our highest recommendation and
"Extreme Excellence Award" for their exceptional performance, high stability
and excellent overclocking potential.
