OCZ,
like a select few other memory manufacturers, is a company focusing on
quality memory targeting both overclockers and gamers alike. Their
latest product offerings have been the top choice among a majority of
enthusiasts running NF4 based motherboards and have gained a high level of
respect for their compatibility and high stability. OCZ is not only
focusing on performance though. They know what kind of heat is
generated from the latest computing hardware and is why they have designed
their new XTC series modules. Sporting a highly appealing heatspreader
designed to dissipate heat more efficiently, the new XTC PC-4000 modules are
certainly designed to please. Add 2GB to the feature list, and you have a dual
channel kit ready for even the most demanding tasks and games. But do they perform well and are they suitable
for even the most hardcore overclockers? Let's have a look...

I'm
personally not a fan of gold, but these are honestly the sexiest modules
I've laid eyes on. While they are part of their Gold Series, these new
modules sport a new heatspreader design in order to dissipate heat more
efficiently.

The
appealing honeycomb-style heatspreaders are not just for looks. Taken
from OCZ's Website, the XTC (Xtreme Thermal Convection) heatspreaders
optimize the thermal management of memory modules by promoting greater
airflow by means of micro-convection throughout what is usually the dead air
space inside conventional heatspreader designs. In this manner, build-up of
heat is avoided and thermal dissipation of the memory components is
offloaded more efficiently through the honeycomb design. At the same time,
mechanical stability is maintained.
Yes, they are memory modules, but they do have two other features that are
certainly worth noting, one of which will keep overclockers at ease when
attempting to achieve that highest stable speed...
EVP - EVP or (Extended Voltage Protection), is a feature that allows
performance enthusiasts to use a VDIMM of 2.9V ± 5% without invalidating
their OCZ Lifetime Warranty. In some particular setups, taking the
voltage this high is necessary in order to get your system running stable.
ULN - ULN or (Ultra Low Noise) technology, uses various printed circuit
board (PCB) techniques to reduce the amount of electrical noise that is
present in all high-speed ICs. This results in faster and more stable
memory.
