Conclusions

Thermalright has ventured into uncharted waters, releasing the first heatsink
to support a 120mm fan while still managing to support a wide
variety of motherboards. While we all know that copper dissipates
heat more efficiently, many will appreciate its light weight and excellent
cooling performance. Heat pipe technology has caught on, and while I
personally think most are going a bit overboard with their designs, it still
offers room to improve cooling products for today's high performance computing
hardware. So what didn't we actually like about the XP-120? Well,
although the heatsink itself is incredibly easy to install, the fan mount
design was quite poor. The clips are not only difficult to place
properly, but do not secure the fan tightly enough. This was the only
reason it failed to earn our highest recommendation. However, its
design, low noise solution and excellent cooling performance does earn our
recommendation.

The
Thermalright XP-120 is available at
Sidewinder Computers for
$48.95. Yes,
the price is a bit too steep, however, those looking for a top performance
cooler without compromising noise levels will be quite pleased with this
product.
