Xide-Pad II & Xide-Base Review
Model: Xide-Pad II and Xide-Base
Manufacturer: Xidepad Technologies
Provider: KoolPCMods
Reviewed By: Tom

Everybody is always looking for that one mod that will really make their case an eye-popper, and leave a lasting impression on anyone who sees it. Today I’m going to review two items that could cure your cravings…the Xide-Pad II and the Xide-base computer pad.

Packaging and Contents

The pads arrived in a simple cardboard envelope, taped heavily at the ends. Each pad was wrapped in what appeared to be saran wrap, and arrived undamaged. Both pads are constructed and lit in the same manner, with a hard synthetic resin pad mounted on top of a sheet of acrylic. Rubber feet are attached to the bottom of each pad to prevent movement.

Each pad is lit by an array of LEDs, two in the mouse pad and four in the Xide-base. This picture is of the LED array in the Xide-base, and is the same arrangement used in the mouse pad.

Probably the only thing I noticed that I didn’t like was the exposed wiring right at the top of the mouse pad…that’s going to be sitting right out on display and you can’t hide it. Not too big a deal I guess, because you can just re-shrink wrap that sucker a little tighter and hide those wires. It’s not so much of a problem on the Xide-base, because that will be buried behind your computer anyway.

Installation

This couldn’t be any easier. All you have to do is run the USB cable around and plug it in, and you’re done.

These pads light up impressively even in full light. However, when the lights go off…

I think the pictures speak for themselves…the lighting is very dramatic, and as the picture of the Xide-base shows, they can really set off your other lighting mods.

Conclusion

These pads are very nicely made, and can be customized by KoolPCMods. The base can be ordered in pretty much any size smaller than 10”X24” inches, and the Xide-Pad ][ can be ordered in six different shapes. I have shown the “C-shape” model here. Each can also be ordered in Blue, Red, and Green, and the Xide-Pad can also come in Orange or Red/Blue. These are a pretty good deal at $24.95 for each because of the options you can get. This is about as high-quality as it gets for lighted mouse pads!
