The Xenix is the most full featured illuminated
keyboard I’ve played with yet. It has a palm rest built in; it has the on/off
switch for the illumination, blue LEDs for the Scroll/Caps/Num indicators, and
adjustable feet. The only catch with the feet is that they’ll probably be used
all the time…the keyboard sits uncomfortably low without them. The feet are
not adjustable, they’re either all the way up or all the way down.

One
of the issues we had with the last illuminated keyboard was the length of the
PS2 cable…only four feet. The Xenix has a six foot cable, fixing the problem
of getting the keyboard to sit where you need it.

Finally, we get to the lighting. This keyboard lights up bright blue, and the
opaque keys distribute the light well. I’m almost positive that the
electronics and keys from the last keyboard are identical to the ones in this
keyboard. I activated all of the indicator LEDs for this picture as well…the
blue is a nice touch!
Installation
& Testing
Installation of the driver software went very easily on my Windows XP
Professional computer. The software required a reboot, and after that all the
buttons functioned as advertised in Internet Explorer and Media Player. I went
down the line and hit every button, just to be sure. The only button I could
not get to work was the “Media Select” button. As there are lots of different
media, I was unable to discern exactly what this button was supposed to open.
All the other buttons display text describing the function on screen, but the
Media Select button does not do that. I will post on the forums if I can get
this button to function as it should. There is lots of documentation on what
the buttons should do, but not a lot of info on how to make them function.
