Ultra X2 550W Titanium Modular Power Supply Review

Conclusions

The new Ultra X2 is a significant improvement over their original X-Connect unit.  It's not only stunning to look at, but is of the highest quality, right down to that mirror-like titanium finish.  Most importantly, it offers plenty of juice and very solid performance.  Tests proved this, as I even attempted to run two different products featuring TECs.  The larger fan is definitely a treat and runs very quietly.  The biggest improvement was also the new Flex Force cables that are very easy to manage.  They can be bent and twisted around with ease and the modular connectors are much smaller and take up less space.  Reliability is key here also.  I still run two of their power supplies, both of which have been extremely reliable and trouble-free.

With its stunning new design, high reliability and solid performance, it earns our highest recommendation.

More information on the new Ultra X2 can be found on the Ultra Products Website.

They are now available at Xoxide.com and come in two flavors, the standard Titanium model and one to please the case modder, which features an LED fan and a lighted window.  Their full Ultra lineup here...

Pros Cons
  • Stunning Modular Design
  • Flex Force cables
  • Excellent Performance
  • Quiet Operation
  • Reliable Product
  • Expensive

I know the only negative I posted was its price tag.  I only added this because I know not everyone can afford a $100 PSU.  However, you should note that price alone should not be the primary determining factor in your decision for a quality power supply.  Why do I say this?  As an example, this unit, which I reviewed quite some time ago, is considered the highest quality PSU money can buy.  However, this particular unit failed on me about two months ago.  In fact, it was quite scary as I was just working on my computer when I heard a very loud bang and the system shutdown.  All I'll say is that I would personally only choose a select few brands and Ultra happens to be one of them.
