Setting up the Linksys Router/Access Point is
quite simple:

The most important step is of
course to enable wireless and to assign an SSID. The SSID will be used
to communicate with your wireless device. Next, set the channel to be
used.
WEP Configuration:
You can also enable/disable WEP
from this main menu. WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) is a method of
encrypting data that is transmitted over a wireless network to insure data
security.
This guide will focus on basic
installation of your wireless device and therefore we will disable WEP for the
time being.

For this example, we will enable
DHCP and give it a starting IP of 100.

Finally, the Wireless
Configuration screen will provide more advanced settings. This is were
you can "tweak" your wireless performance. Although I can recommend some
settings for best performance, you will really have to play around with these
in order to get the best communication between your devices. A couple of
recommendations is to set the RTS threshold to the highest and Preamble type
to "short" This will improve performance but may or may not work
depending on the wireless device being used.
Now that you have configured
your Router/Access Point, lets configure your wireless device! |
