Extreme Guide to Video Capture & Editing - Continued

Editing Videos with Ulead Mediastudio Pro 7

Ulead Mediastudio Pro is an excellent high end video editing suite designed for professionals and video enthusiasts.  Ulead has recently released version 7 and I must say it is my favorite complete professional video editing suite.   Unlike other professional tools, it has a user friendly interface and is loaded with great features.  We will show you some basic editing functions such as cutting and joining and also take a peak at its cool transition effects that can be used to create cool intros and endings.

When you open up the editor, the window above will pop up allowing you to choose the video format to use for creating your final video.  All types of formats can be selected from here including AVI, VCD, SVCD, MPEG1, MPEG2, DVD and many more.  Select your desired format and click the "OK" button.

On the bottom portion, you'll notice the timeline.  This is where you will work with your videos.   Let's insert the video clip we would like to edit by clicking on the first icon on the toolbar.  Browse out to where the video is located and select it.

Place the video at the beginning of the timeline by dragging your mouse pointer to the beginning of the "Va" line and clicking on the left mouse button once.   You should see the video now on the timeline.   The top portion is your video stream and the bottom is your audio.   Because we now have the audio separated, we can add individual effects to either the video or audio portion of the file.  The toolbar at the top of your timeline window has everything you need including video and audio filters.

Right above the Timeline window we have our preview and source window.   Let's double click anywhere on the video portion on the timeline to display the video in the source window.   From here, we will be able to cut the video.

To cut the video, we will do like we have done before with the other applications.  Drag the selection bar to where you want the beginning and ending of the video and use the mark buttons to mark them.  Once your selection has been made, click on the check mark to apply the changes.  You can preview your changes by click on the play button on your preview window.

That's how you would cut your videos with Ulead MSP7.   You can join videos by simply adding them to the timeline.  On the picture above, we have added a second clip to the timeline at the end of the first video.  You can then select that clip and make changes to it without affecting the first clip on the timeline.

Transitions, Intros and endings with Ulead Mediastudio Pro 7

Ulead Mediastudio Pro 7 is packed with cool transition effects to satisfy just about every need.

To add a transition effect to your video, simply drag the transition of choice to the "Fx" section of the timeline window.   Transitions can be used control how video clips in the "Va" and "Vb" tracks merge with each other. You can select it and right click it to change its duration or make other adjustments.

You can create Intros and endings for your videos by clicking on the icon on the timeline window.   The window above should come up.   From this main screen you can insert your text to display and select the font and formatting options.  You can also set the duration of the clip itself and even has a preview window to play the actual clip.

You will notice two additional tabs where you can give your intro or ending text cool animation effects or textures.  This is a great way to create professional looking videos.

As you can see, Ulead Mediastudio Pro has everything you need to create professional looking videos all in a user friendly interface.  Yes, it's expensive, but it's the most complete video editing suite available.  Highly recommended.

This concludes the editing portion of this guide.  We hope you have found it quite useful.   Stay tuned for Part 2 of this guide which will cover video encoding, authoring and playing.
