Cutting and joining MPEG1, MPEG2, VCD, SVCD,
XVCD & DVD files
The program we will be using for this is
TMPGEnc. This is an excellent application that will allow you to
easily cut, join and edit these types of video files.
TMPGEnc is freeware but they have a "Plus"
version available for sale. It is inexpensive. As I
mentioned earlier, some of the best video editing tools out there are
actually free or very inexpensive. TMPGEnc is one of these tools.
I highly recommend it and it is a must have for those video editing pros
or enthusiasts.
You can download TMPGEnc
here.

Open TMPGEnc and select "MPEG Tools" from
the File menu.

The MPEG Tools windows will show.
Click on the "Merge & Cut" tab as show above. This is the screen you
will be working with to cut and join your videos.

Click on the "Add" button and insert the
video or videos you wish to edit or join. You can add as many clips
as you want and edit them separately from here. To cut part of the
inserted clip, highlight it and click on the "Edit" button.

Like we did with Virtual Dub earlier, you
will drag the progress bar to where you want the beginning and end of the
video to be and mark them accordingly with the mark buttons as shown
above. Once you are done cutting, click OK.

You will now notice that the inserted clip
has a start and end time as shown above. You can add more clips to
this menu and cut them individually. If you are trying to cut parts
from the same file or from one huge file, you can actually just add the
same file again and cut the file at different points. For example,
if you're trying to remove commercials from TV program you recorded, you
would do it this way.

Once your done cutting or inserting all the
clips you wish to join, we are ready to create the single video file.
Click on the "Browse" button and navigate to the directory where you wish
to save the file. Give the output file a name and click on "Run".

After you click on Run, it will begin
processing both the video and audio streams and join the files.
This may take a while if you don't have much computing power or if your
working with really big files. It will give you some useful
information like the time remaining and the estimated output file size
during this process.
