Super Talent VIDEGO28 Touch Screen Digital Media Player Review

Installation

As far as installation goes, it was flawless and I did not experience any issues on both a Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista Ultimate test system.

In Device Manager, you won't find it under USB or Multimedia Devices but rather under the Disk Drives menu as a "RockChip" device.  You'll actually see two hardware entries here, both of which I'll elaborate on further below.

There is no third-party software to rely on for file transfers and the player is quickly identified as a mass storage device in Windows.  In fact, you'll see it as two individual drives due to its integrated flash card reader that provides additional memory expansion via an Mini-SD flash card.

Bundled Software

The VIDEGO28 comes with a mini CD that includes the necessary software to take advantage of all its features.  Upon inspection, I neglected to load the first piece of software because I could not get a clear indication as to what it was for.  This software, labeled as "Consumer Update" on the disc or "Software Upgrade" according to the website download, does not offer any details as to what it is actually for.  Regardless, the player connected flawlessly without the need for it and I would refrain from installing it if you do not experience any connectivity problems.

The second piece of software offered is a very basic video converter that will create video files that are supported for playback on this player.

This software, titled AVIConverter 3.0, will allow you to convert your existing videos to MPEG-4 (AVI) format for proper playback on this player.

It is extremely easy to use and all you have to do upon launching it is to begin adding one or more files for conversion.

Again, it is very basic and will automatically choose the correct resolution for you with no manual settings here.  However, there are some settings you can change such as the quality of the conversion as well as the aspect ratio of choice based on the source file/s you choose to load on the player.

While I personally also like to use more advanced tools for tweaking and overall better playback performance, this software works very well and is not only extremely easy to use, but conversion is super fast and it doesn't take long at all to convert a small batch of files.
