Zen owners have been waiting a long time for a decent case to help protect their
investment. The bulky elastic case that comes along with the device just
doesn’t cut it. No third-party vendor has released a case for this MP3 player
until now! And who better than VAJA, the leading well known and respected
manufacturer of innovative, high quality leather cases for Pocket PCs, PDAs,
Cell Phones and now…MP3 players. Zen and Zen NX owners will be happy to know
that VAJA has released a complete line of fully custom cases for both devices
and are now available for sale on their website. ExtremeMHz has received a
sample of one of these new beauties from VAJA. Let’s take a closer look!
Many who own Pocket PC’s
and PDA’s have probably heard the name VAJA before. Their products are
highly praised for their superior quality and craftsmanship. For those who
have not, VAJA is an Argentinean company that manufactures innovative
form-fitting cases for many of the products we know and love. Their products
are made using only the top ten percent of Argentine leather. This strict
selection process may result in a more expensive product, but you’ll be sure
to get the highest quality leather available, combined with the latest
techniques that will not only protect your investment, but do it with a bit of
style as well.

The case comes in a pretty black box with Vaja's quality assurance statement printed on
the bottom of the box. The case is lined with white tissue paper and
includes any accessories you may have ordered along with it. Ours came
with a clip that we will look at in detail a bit later.

The sample they sent us was a highly attractive
two-toned color case which seems to be a combination of Vetelino orange with a
tanish color for the front accent. I did not find this particular model
on their website, but it is a real nice combination to say the least. The
screen area is actually not exposed and is covered with a crystal clear
plastic. This is a major plus as one of the issues I currently have with
the Nomad Zen Firewire is that the screen is not completely sealed.
Dust particles are starting to build up inside the actual screen itself.
This case will definitely keep the screen dust free. The bottom front
sports the metal vaja logo which definitely adds to its already good looks.
The top strap securely buttons to the back of the case. The top is
partially exposed to give you complete access to the headphone jack.

You have your cutouts on the right and left side
of the case to gain access to the controls on the Zen. The stitching and
overall quality of this case is top notch. We were quite impressed
with its superior craftsmanship and attention to detail.

You have a choice ordering one with or without the
"Ultra Clip". This is no ordinary belt clip! Hence its name,
this clip can withstand pulling forces in excess of 130lbs in either
direction. It swivels and can easily be removed by simply twisting the
device about 90º or so and pushing
down on the top end of the clip itself. The heavy duty pin it attaches to is
made of bronze coated in nickel.
