X-Ray Pad Thunder 8 Performance Mouse Pad

Testing

Extensive testing was done using a variety of optical mice.  This included the Auravision Laser Mouse, Logisys optical fan mouse, Microsoft optical wheel mouse, Xenix fan mouse and of course, my trusty modded Logitech dual optical mouse.  There are two blue LED mice in this lineup, the Logisys optical fan mouse and Logitech dual optical mouse.

Considering this is a dual surface mouse pad, testing was done on both to see what advantages each have with different mice.

The Smooth Side

The smooth side worked very well with all red LED mice.  The best performance was with the Xenix and Auravision mice.  The tracking was superb and I actually had to go in and reduce the tracking speed with these two mice.  While the two modded blue LED mice surprisingly did work with this surface, tracking was quite poor.

The Rough Side

Things were quite different with this surface.  The rougher side also provided excellent tracking, particularly with the blue LED mice.  All red LED mice worked well but the Auravision mouse provided the best tracking on this surface.  However, I've been trying to find a black mouse pad that would work well with my modded blue LED mice.  I believe I have finally found it.  The Thunder 8 is the mouse pad to pair with any blue LED mice.  The tracking was simply outstanding and a major improvement over any other surface I have ran them on.  It proved quite helpful in some extensive image and video editing work.

I didn't really find the included cord clip of much help, but it certainly can come in handy in most other setup environments.  Regardless, it is included and there if you need it.

Conclusions

The X-RayPad Thunder 8 comes in a impressive aluminum case for two reasons.  They want to emphasize that what's inside is a quality product and they want to provide those gamers and LAN goers with a way to protect their investment.  It will certainly unleash the full capabilities of your optical mouse.  I've also finally found a pad that works exceptionally well with modded blue LED mice, provided you use the rougher surface.  I like the flexibility and performance this pad has to offer.  It's an impressive mouse pad that will provide excellent tracking no matter what optical mouse is used.  It is also the perfect size and the "feet" under the pad do a fairly good job at keeping it in place.  However, it still tends to move a bit after extensive use.  EMHz Recommended!

Stay tuned, as we will take a look at their other product offerings in an upcoming review.
