Spb Mobile Shell 2.0 - Finger-friendly Navigation for Windows Mobile

Customization

I can't begin to cover every single option here.  That's how impressive this software is and how highly configurable it really is.  However, I'll comment on a few...

Some of the options include customizing the actual tabs and move each up and down to your liking.  Also, you have full control of the launch menu and in case you mess something up, you have a reset button to set everything back to default.

What's really nice though is that most of the configurable options are accessed directly from the interface and are "finger-friendly".  One happens to be the theme color itself.  You have a whopping 16 color options to choose from!

Animation & Smart Gestures

The two main features I find that make this software fun to use are the transitions and what they call "Smart Gestures".  The menu animations are quite nice and you have a number of them to choose from.  Finally, the software also features what they call "Smart Gestures".  This allows you to activate any of the panels from any application you are currently using.  Think of it somewhat like Vista's Flip 3D but for Windows Mobile.  With a unique swipe of your finger, you will be presented with real-time thumbnails of all three main menus.  While keeping your finger/thumb on the screen, you can flip through and select any with ease.

While I can write quite a bit to try an describe how fun it is to navigate your device using this software, I won't be doing that.  Instead, the best way to show you is via a video and is why I put together a demo video showing you some transition effects and even the super cool thumbnail menu activation.

You'll need the flash plug-in installed to view the video clip below...

Conclusions

When it comes to impressive and highly useful applications for Windows Mobile phones, Spb is one of the few companies that develops some darn great ones.  Their Spb Phone Suite is one other excellent example.  There is no doubt that with the trend cell phones are taking, this kind of innovative functionality is somewhat essential.  You have to thank HTC for introducing this unique method of navigating Windows Mobile.  It is their TouchFLO that has inspired many to not only hack/tweak their own method, but inspired many gifted developers such as those from Spb Software House to release their own versions offering so much more.  Spb Mobile Shell is, by far, the best option I have seen and its level of customization is phenomenal.

Also as impressive though is its responsiveness and just how fast it loads and handles all transitions without any lag whatsoever.  In fact, even after heavy customizing, it functions better than HTC's own TouchFLO.  Load Spb Mobile Shell 2.0 and it's somewhat like having a completely different phone altogether.  That's simply the best way to describe just how pleasant it is to use your device after it is loaded.  With that said, it earns our highest recommendation and Extreme Excellence Award.

Best of all though is what you'll pay for it.  For just under $30, this is a must have for any Windows Mobile user.  More information can be found on Spb's Website.
