Spb Mobile Shell 2.0 - Finger-friendly Navigation for Windows Mobile

Product:  Mobile Shell 2.0

Developer:  Spb

Reviewed By:  Miguel

There is no doubt that phones powered by Windows Mobile are powerful devices that will allow you to do just about anything you can think of, thanks to the high level of support from third-party software developers.  However, with the latest trend being touch screen devices, Windows Mobile was not necessarily designed to be "finger-friendly".  An approach to somewhat remedy this started with none other than HTC, the company behind a number of Windows Mobile phones many now own and love.  It is their innovative TouchFLO interface that has inspired many to join in and offer similar alternatives.  One such company is Spb Software House and their latest, Mobile Shell 2.0, is a shell replacement utility designed to make navigation much more pleasurable.

While there are some companies, like PointUI, already offering a similar alternative, Spb's Mobile Shell 2.0 is the best option I have seen yet.  If you own a Windows powered phone, you'll definitely want to stick with me here and read up on this exceptional piece of software.

Installation

Like all third-party software for Windows Mobile, installation is pretty straightforward.  You have the option of downloading the PC executable install or the CAB version to install directly from your device.  Note that because this software will essentially modify the standard Windows Mobile interface, it must be installed on your device's built-in memory.  For those wondering, that is why you don't really see an option to install on external storage card during the install.  With that said, make sure you have enough free space on your device to support it.

The software was installed and tested on the HTC Touch.  If you don't own the "enhanced" version of this phone and were not smart enough to install most of your apps on a flash card, you may run into some memory related issues.  Make sure you clear your cache and have ample storage space on the device before installing the software.
