Lite-On SOHW-1213S Dual Format 12x DVD Writer Review

Model:  SOHW-1213S

Manufacturer:  Lite-On

Provider:  Lite-On

Reviewed By:  Miguel

Review Date:  07/18/04

We previously looked at Lite-ON's 8x double layer DVD writer and were completely impressed with its features and performance.  Today, we look at their latest and fastest DVD writer, the SOHW-1213s.  Capable of burning DVD's at 12x, this new drive appears to be quite a speed demon and combined with the quality and performance you'd expect from Lite-ON, should be one drive worthy of an upgrade.  But let's see if we can back this statement up by taking it for a spin.

Our review sample arrived in its retail packaging and includes an OEM version of Nero Burning ROM, the excellent PowerDVD playback software, DVD+R disc, DVD-R disc, audio cable, mounting screws and quick install guide.  The discs that Lite-ON includes with their drives are of the highest quality and are capable of burning at 12x.

The retail model comes with a white bezel design, however, those who would like a black bezel model, can probably find a OEM model at various online shops.  The front looks the same as the SOHW-832s we looked at previously.

What's really nice about these new Lite-ON DVD Writers is the short depth design.  They are significantly shorter than your average CD/DVD drive and almost a perfect square in shape.

This new 12x writer was announced by Lite-ON not too long ago.  The drive's label had a manufacture date of June 2004.
