Motorola MPX200 Smartphone - Just how "smart" is it?

Entertainment Software

MP3 & Video Playback

Many are not happy with the included version of Media Player for Smartphone 2002.  One of the biggest complaints is the lack of a pause button.  For those looking for a better looking MP3 player with pause functionality, Simple Tunes by Visual IT is an excellent alternative.  It does support skins but at the moment, there are only two available and the default skin is the one that looks best.  The software does offer a shuffle and repeat playback option as well.

As you can tell by now, I'm not a huge fan of media player so I look for alternatives.  One of the best video players for your Pocket PC and Smartphone is Pocket TV.  I think it does a much better job at playing videos on these handheld devices.  Even the free version of Pocket TV is much better than media player in my opinion.  I encoded my favorite vids for smooth playback on the smartphone and all worked quite well.  It's a must have for those who love to watch videos or short films on your handheld device.

Gaming

There are tons of companies and developers now offering great games for your smartphone.  I'll be showing you a few that are worth your time.

They name may not sound familiar but you have probably played one of their cool games on MSN.  Astraware are the makers of some highly popular games such as Cubis and Bejeweled.  The good news is that you can now take these with you as they are now available for Smartphones as well.

Astraware provided a copy of Cubis for review.  I was surprised at just how good it looks on such a small screen.  Animations and graphics are excellent.  For those unfamiliar with the game, Cubis is a highly addictive 3D puzzle game featuring up to one hundred hand-designed levels.

I discovered this game on the Handango website.  It's a fighting game that consists of two stick figures fighting on a 3D background.  There are a few fight modes including Championship which will let you fight and kick your way to the top.  This is quite a fun game and an excellent way to past the time at a doctors office, etc.  A very cool title worth checking out.

For those who crave a more challenging game with the highest quality 3D graphics available for smartphones, look no further than Omnig Software.

Mini-Sportsbike is just one of their titles.  This is by far the best graphics I've seen on a smartphone game and the company should be acknowledged for that.  This game is a bit challenging and will take a bit of time to get used to but it is definitely exciting.  I was expecting it to be a bit choppy but to my surprise, the MPX200 was able to keep up with this fast-paced 3D racing game.  Choose between Superbike or Motorcross racing.
