One
of the great things that has been happening over the last few years in the
computer industry is the development of products “modded” out of the box, and
often look and function nothing like their conservative counterparts. This
used to revolve around the chassis itself, but recently everything from
Keyboards, Mice, and almost any other peripheral you can think of is getting
into the act. Today I have the pleasure of reviewing a set of Sicuro 670XL 5.1
Gaming Speakers, thanks to the folks at Realworld Technology Inc. RWTI
produces a large selection of multimedia speakers, computer cases, sound
cards, and Home Theater systems. Hopefully, all that audio experience will
show in the Sicuro 670XL!
Packaging &
First Impressions
The retail box is fairly large, 21x15x12 inches, and is covered in details
about the product and colorful graphics.

Upon opening the box, the first item that needs to be mentioned is that
however small these speakers might look on the RWTI website they’re far from
it. Even the power cable has a monster sized transformer.

The
subwoofer is pretty large and heavy, with all the controls mounted on the
bottom edge. I don’t like that, as most subs are on the floor (the Sicuro
manual recommends this) and not easy to get to. The controls would have been
better placed on one of the two front speakers. Fortunately, the RW-670XL
comes with a remote, which will alleviate some of that problem.

The
670XL has some of the wildest styling I’ve ever seen on speakers, and is
loaded with chrome. The silver set that I have here comes with white speaker
faces. Some of the other reviews I’ve read show different color faces, as I
know the black speakers come with yellow faces and yellow buttons. Sicuro has
made an effort to make sure everything matches, at least with regard to the
speakers. The satellites come with a small bracket on the back to allow you to
mount them on the wall. The cables are some of the longest I’ve ever seen on a
speaker system, allowing you to set the satellites exactly where you want. The
only short cable is the one that connects the subwoofer to the sound card, and
it’s still long enough.

Each
of the long “spikes” has an LED mounted inside, blue in this case. The
speakers are equipped with a button to turn off the LED lighting if desired.

An Item I was very happy to see was the remote,
and RWTI was even nice enough to include the two AAA batteries you’ll need. It
can control the volume of the Front, Rear, Center, and Subwoofer independently
of each other as well as a master volume control. The lower three buttons are
the Enhanced mode, mute, and power buttons.
