CD Write Tests
The SHW-1635s is
capable of writing to CD-R media at 48x. This is currently the highest
supported write speed found on multi-format drives.
1. CD-DVD Speed - CDR Media

Lite-On drives double as speedy CD writers.
The SHW-1635s can hit write speeds of 49x and burn a full disc in just three
minutes.

Actual write tests were done with a variety of
CD-R discs. On Average, the drive wrote exactly 698MB of data in about 3 minutes.
Let's check its media compatibility with a variety of discs...

CD-R media compatibility was excellent.
It was able to write to Philips 40x and trusty Imation 24x "Music" CD-Rs at
48x.

I used quality high speed 32x media from
Verbatim in these tests, as well as "Ultra-Speed" media from Memorex.
Let's first have a look at the write process on CD-DVD Speed...

Unfortunately, while its CD-R media compatibility was excellent, it failed
to impress with rewritable media. Even with high speed Verbatim 32x
discs, it was only able to write to them at 16x.

Performing a full erase in Nero took just
under 5 minutes.
3. CD-R Write Quality
With CD media, this is measured by the number
of C1 and C2 errors. All discs will report a certain number of C1 errors,
but what you should be more concerned with is the number of C2 errors
reported. If using Nero's Disc Quality Test, I recommend you perform the
test using either 24x or 32x speeds for the most reliable results.

For quality tests, I used genuine Taiyo Yuden
52x CD-R media. The results were very impressive, considering Lite-On
drives are known to perform poorly in this area. Quality score was a
high 97% and no C2 errors were reported. Very low C1 errors were also
reported from the test burn.
4. Over-burning & 99min CD-R Media

Lite-On drives fully support over-burning with
CD-R media. It was able to write
99 minutes of music to my Melody branded 48x 99min discs at 32x.
Playback of the disc on the computer, my home audio system, and my car's
stereo system was flawless with no playback issues with the last two music
tracks.
