Shuttle AS45GTR Motherboard Review - Conclusion |
|
|
The Shuttle AS45GTR is a solid
performer. The board is packed with features and even includes
some not seen yet on other boards. It's got everything you could
possibly ask for. Well, almost. It's only missing onboard
LAN. Serial ATA/RAID, AGP 8x support, and it's
"unofficial" DDR400 support will attract those looking for maximum
investment and upgradeability. The board is rock solid running
at 133FSB and DDR 333. However, hardcore overclockers will
probably want to look elsewhere. The capability is there but I
was not too successful with them. It all depends on what's more
important to you. If it's stability, it shines in this category
running at specs or running mildly overclocked. I found the
board completely stable at up to 145FSB.
The new SIS 648 chipset proves to be
a contender and the Shuttle AS45GTR definitely takes advantage of all it has to
offer. I have not previously owned any Shuttle products but based on their
website, it looks as if they are pretty good at releasing BIOS updates
for their products. So if there are any minor quirks, I'm sure they would be fixed.
