Seagate 750GB SATA II Hard Drive Review

Model:  ST3750640AS-R

Manufacturer:  Seagate

Provider Geeks

As Terabyte drives continue to be released at a premium cost, the need for this kind of storage space from many has somewhat forced them to shell out a bit more money than really necessary.  But is it wise to do so?  If your a smart buyer, you'll agree with me that the answer is no.  For less than what you'll pay for just a single 1TB drive, you can purchase two 500MB or even two 750MB drives.  One such option can be the Seagate 750GB SATA II drive with 16MB of internal cache.  This is not just another SATA II drive though.  This hard drive, featuring perpendicular recording, offers some pretty impressive performance when compared to other 7200RMP drives you can buy with your money.  Let's take it for a spin....

The particular drive reviewed here was a "white box" drive from Geeks that has been factory recertified.  The drive ships and functions like any new OEM drive but you'll end up paying less for it.

Nothing much to brag about its design.  Unlike some WD drives, its design is quite the norm.  On the rear though, it is a bit different than what you may be used to.  Getting to the jumper is more difficult than with most other drives.

Our particular sample was a "Recertified Repaired" drive and the label does clearly identify it as one.  However, these drives are provided in like-new condition directly from Seagate.  One other minor but nice thing to note about the label is that the instructions are clearly listed on it as well.
