Silverstone Sugo SG01 Small Form Factor Chassis

Model:  SG01

Manufacturer:  Silverstone Technology

Provider:  Silverstone Technology

Reviewed By:  Tom

Although I’ve had the opportunity to review many ATX cases here at EM, We really haven’t reviewed anything smaller. Lucky for me, Silverstone was kind enough to send out their newest chassis - the SG01. Part of their new Sugo series, this case is just big enough to accommodate a mATX board, but is big enough to use off the shelf components unlike the ultra-small Small Form Factor (SFF) systems. Let’s check it out!

Packaging & Contents

The SG01 arrived in the same kind of packaging that we’ve seen previously from Silverstone. I’ve never had any problem with it, and there’s enough pictures and information on it to make just about anyone happy. Moving on…

The SG01 is about as stripped down as a case could be. There’s no motherboard I/O plate, and it has two out of the potential three fans installed. Silverstone did include all the needed hardware and a well-done instruction manual. More case manufacturers should include the manual…not everyone has assembled a computer before.

Compared to the other mATX case I own, the SG01 is pretty hefty. But for that weight it’s a stunner to look at. The shiny chrome/Plexiglas trim offsets the brushed aluminum nicely, and it just looks classy. Where most cases tend to hide the front ports, Silverstone managed to incorporate them into the look of this chassis. Also notice the long perforated vent just below the power supply mount on the rear of the case. Silverstone will eventually be offering a cross-flow fan that will mount in that spot. It was not included in our review sample.

The big advantage of a case like this is its small size coupled with its ability to accept pretty much any normal computer component, most notably being the motherboard and power supply. Its use of a mATX board allows for more expansion slots than one would find in a SFF, and you’re also not limited to a small wattage proprietary PSU.
