Silverstone Raven RV01 Enclosure - A Bold Change From The Norm

Design & Features

This case is brilliantly designed and does have plenty of unique features.  With that said, I will deviate from my typical guidelines and split the Design & Features section to cover the outside and inside separately.  There's that many pictures worth showing you all and lot's to cover.

The Outside

I'll start this section off with the side panels.  The Raven RV01 is obviously only available in black, but there are two models available.  The one sent over is there appealing side window model.  The window itself is quite small, but it is mounted in just the right area and is uniquely cut to show as much of your hardware as possible.

That Raven Look...

I've been working with and seen plenty of Silverstone cases through the years and you can always expect lots of metal and little to no plastic.  However, in order to make this case blend in well in the series and give it that "raven look", there's lots of plastic in the way of flares and accents to make it as visually unique as it is.  After reviewing a number of radically designed cases from different manufacturer's,  the quality is simply no comparison.  Despite all the plastic, they managed to provide the same level of quality you'd expect from them.  There are a number of reasons why, all of which I'll do my best to cover here.

The front of the case is very unique, sporting a nice accent light and a stealth drive bay cover that functions unlike like any case you have probably seen or owned.  To open or reveal the external drives, you actually pull the front panel down until it locks into place.  As far as closing it, it is semi-automatic.  Just one push downward will activate the sliding mechanism that will, although a bit slow, lock the panel back into place.  More on that later though...

The top rear is also very unique.  There are two locking knobs that allow you to remove the top rear panel for access to the PCI slots and connections.  Yes, the slots are on the top of the case!

The design of the front expansion ports is quite nice.  They are conveniently located in the top front of the case but the cover has a "beak-like" design, blending in quite well with the theme of both the case and this new series.   Best of all, I loved the feel of the cover.  It is far from flimsy and opens and closes nicely.  Well done.

Although some may consider it minor, the bottom of the case is extremely well-designed.  It is elevated, providing proper air-flow and the bottom rear features just one of many fan filters that can be easily pull-out or removed for cleaning.
