Last
week we took a look at the SST-30NF, a power supply designed to be as silent
as possible, but at the expense of raw power. This week, we’ll be taking a
look at the other side of the coin, with a power supply designed for the
overclocker and high performance enthusiast. Usually when someone mentions
high performance power supplies Cooler Master is not at the top of the
list…but it looks like they’re out to try and change your mind! On the test
bench today is the Real Power 450W power supply-complete with paint, an LED
cooling solution, and a load meter. Let’s check it out!
Packaging
and Contents
The box is certainly colorful in the usual Cooler Master purple scheme, with
plenty of pictures and information. Although I’ll hold my opinions until I
hear it myself, the box claims that the RS-450 is super quiet.

The box contains a very complete package, with a 20 to 24 pin adaptor, power
cable, load meter, and four screws to mount the unit in your case. Very
nice! I was very happy to see the 20 to 24 pin adaptor. I’ve seen some other
power supplies that have the 24 pin ATX connector on the power supply
itself, requiring the use of the adaptor in most situations. The 24 pin is
mostly a server board item at the moment, although it will be the standard
connector on the upcoming Intel chipsets. Having the adaptor will ensure
this power supply will be ready for ‘em.
