One of the glimpses into the future that
Miguel and I saw at CES this year was the Razer Pro|Solutions gear. Razer
has opted to repackage some of their high performance gaming equipment for
the professional types out there, most obviously in the all-white color
scheme of the product line. Straying from their core gaming audience is
certainly unusual - doubly so since it is Razer we’re talking about in the
first place! So other than matching your Mac, is there any real good reason
to pick some of this stuff up? Read on and find out!

The
kit I received in the mail was the basic mouse/pad setup. Razer has gone the
extra mile and made the packaging match up pretty well too.
As someone who has been lucky enough to get all the new Razer gear on the
review bench since the Viper, I was mainly interested in how Razer was going
to make the Pro|Solutions lineup any different from their standard gaming
equipment.

One thing that I’ve always loved about Razer, aside from the way their mice
play, is that constant drive to ‘get the product right’. Even if it takes a
few different products and a long period of time, they will almost
invariably get it as close to perfection as possible. I bring this up
because it was the first thought that came to my mind when I pulled the
Pro|Solutions Propad out of the packaging sleeve…it didn’t want to come out
very easy. I found that this is because Razer has replaced the harder rubber
feet found on the eXactMat with a slightly tackier foam rubber foot. There
was really nothing wrong with the hard rubber feet on the eXactMat, but it’s
exactly the way Razer seems to approach the development of its product line.

Other than the new feet, what we have here is a white Razer eXactMat without
the big cool graphics. It does have the Pro|Solutions logo in a smaller
graphic on the lower left corner of each side of the pad. The pad is double
sided, one side for speed, and the other more textured for better control.
The eXactMat has been one of my favorite pads for a while now, and I’m glad
to see the Pro|Solutions package uses it.

The
Pro V1.6 mouse is basically a white Diamondback with blue lighting. This is
not really a bad thing if you think about it. My brother is an editor in the
film industry, and has his own AVID editing suite. The high resolutions he
uses on his display almost require a high dpi mouse, because at 800 it would
take nearly two or three passes across the pad to get from one side to the
other of that big 22” display he’s got. Less travel means less fatigue, and
this is exactly the kind of performance the Pro|Solutions mouse brings to
the table. With seven buttons that can be customized to the user’s heart’s
content, and on-the-fly adjustable dpi settings, there isn’t a whole lot it
can’t do.
