Razer Pro|Tones m100 & m250 Headphones

Conclusions

Razer has expanded their product line with products that are set to target a different kind of consumer.  For this, I have the highest respect for them, considering they work hard to only offer products that are a step ahead when it comes down to technology.  This is why I have been so eager to get a hold of these headphones in for review.

However, in the end, only one of these products did impress.  The new Pro|Tones m250 headphones, while impressively designed, simply did not deliver when it came down to sound quality.  The bass was lacking and I found myself setting the volume to its max using two quality MP3 players that happen to feature a very high signal-to-noise ratio.  The Pro|Tones m100 headphones where a completely different story though.  These small but power in-ear style headphones were able to provide a very high level of comfort and sound.  They provide a full "seal" on your ear canal, eliminating all unwanted noise and putting you in your own little space.  This certainly did aid in providing much more impressive bass and eliminating the need to set your MP3 player to its maximum volume level.  Even when compared to a similar product from a very respected manufacturer, the m100's did provide a very slight edge, providing slightly better high to midrange response.

When it comes down to sound quality, you do indeed get what you pay for.  This is especially the true when it comes to such products.  As an audiophile and musician, I've had the opportunity to use a number of very expensive headphones over the years.    However, I know that not all can afford a $300 pair of headphones and I know that a majority are simply looking for the best possible sound based on their budget.  With that said, I will say that the Pro|Tones m100 headphones will deliver quality sound, despite their very modest $40 price tag.  At this price range, this is the best sound you'll get.  Unfortunately, I could not say the same for their slightly higher priced m250 headphones.  While I was impressed with their design and level of comfort, I could not say the same in terms of their overall sound quality.

In the end, I guess this is proof that bigger isn't always better.  Whether you one who refuses to give in-ear headphones a try, or one who may have had a bad experience with them using a inferior product, the m100's are a prefect choice in order to experience the benefits of in-ear style headphones and the difference in sound quality they do provide.  Exterior sound isolation is key to providing a higher level of overall sound quality.  Out of the two, the Razer m100 headphones earn my recommendation.

More information on the both products can be found on Razer's Pro Solutions Portal Site.  Both models are available in black or white for those ipod users out there.
