Installation
& Testing
Physical installation of the L.I.S. POP is very simple. Just screw the device
into a free 5.25” bay and plug in the serial and power lines.

The
display lights up a very pretty shade of blue…it will definitely catch
people’s attention!

Installation of the included Multimedia Control Center (MCC) is also painless,
even with the unsigned drivers in XP. The layout is plain and simple, with the
major display options listed down the left side and the configurable items
located on the screen to the right. One item that was notably absent from VL
System’s last LCD is fan control…the L.I.S. POP does not have it. The menu
option is still visible though, and may confuse some folks out there.

The
rest of the options are pretty much all functional, including plug-ins for
Windows Media Player 10 and Winamp. Date/Time, CPU clock speed, memory usage,
and many other items are readily customizable. I have included a few of the
more interesting screens below to give some examples of what this LCD can do.
In descending order, we have the Basic Setup, Email, Graphic Editor, Auto, and
Windows Media Player screens. I created the checker pattern on the first block
of the graphic editor to give some idea of how it works. The Auto screen is
also very nice, allowing you to set up various functions to appear in sequence
on the display for a pre determined amount of time.

I did
have one gripe with the Windows Media Player plug-in…it stops working if you
minimize the player! I tend to minimize whatever player I happen to be using
when I’m working on the computer or surfing the internet, so this was a pretty
big annoyance.
