Kensington PocketMouse Optical Wireless Micro Review

Installation

Installation is a breeze and is quickly identified in Device Manager on a WinXP system.  The mouse itself requires no drivers to operate and will work almost instantly after plugging in the USB receiver.

Performance

The Kensington PocketMouse is a pleasure to use.  It is surprisingly accurate thanks to Kensington's Diamondeye optical technology.  In fact, it may be a bit too fast for most users and you may find yourself adjusting its sensitivity a bit.  The large scroll wheel is very comfortable and does not feel flimsy or cheap.  Also, don't let the tiny RF receiver fool you.  Its "Quick-RF" feature offers 30% faster wireless performance and you can easily use the mouse as far at 3ft away from your laptop computer.  It also worked flawlessly on just about any surface, including black mousing pads.

Conclusions

This tiny mouse is big on features, most of which are not found on other mice in its class.  It is a quality, high performance wireless mouse that is brilliantly designed.  The stowaway RF receiver conveniently tucks away in the mouse itself, automatically turning it off to save batteries.  It may be small, but its wide body makes it quite comfortable to use.  The large lighting scroll wheel is a real treat and works well.  In terms of performance, it is surprisingly accurate and responsive on mostly all surfaces.  Despite its tiny receiver, the wireless range is excellent and will be more than suitable for all notebook users.  It is also very light, even with the batteries installed.  Other than maybe a lack of a side button and low battery indicator, there is absolutely nothing to dislike about the PocketMouse except maybe its price tag.  Considering its price ranges between $35-50, it is certainly on the expensive side for a notebook mouse.  However, if you are willing to spend this much on a notebook mouse, look no further!  Its innovative ultra-compact design and excellent performance earns our recommendation.
