Griffin Technology PowerMate Review

Model:  PowerMate

"Cool. What is it?"  Those exact words come to mind when you first lay eyes on the PowerMate from Griffin Technology.   Every now and then we come across such a unique piece of computing hardware that just boggles the mind.  After seeing a picture of this device, I was immediately intrigued not only by its looks, but by its functionality.   I knew then I had to get my hands on one for evaluation.

The Griffin PowerMate is a clever USB input device which functions as an assignable controller.   The user can program it to do just about anything in Windows or Mac applications.  With the included software, you can customize it even further based on your needs.

The PowerMate comes in an attractive package that contains a USB extension cable and Software CD which also includes the product manual.  The PowerMate's cable is fairly short so unless your connecting it to a laptop PC, you will probably need the included extension cable.

The device itself is visually stunning and is quite an eye catcher.  It is made entirely of high quality machined aluminum.  The base consists of both a piece of translucent plastic and what seems to be a thin layer of clear rubber which not only keeps it firmly in place on any surface, but also adds to its lighting effect.  Embedded between the base are two high intensity blue LED's which can be controlled through software.  This is by far its most attractive feature and can also be quite functional with the use of third party applications (Mac).  The knob glides very smoothly without any friction and can also act as a button by simply pushing down on it.   The overall design of the Griffin PowerMate is without a doubt impressive.
