Epson PictureMate Dash Compact Photo Printer Review

Bundled Software

While most of the functions a majority would want to use can actually be done directly from the printer itself, Epson does include some bundled software as well for PC connectivity and additional functionality.

Installation of software and required drivers is quite simple and as I always recommend to many, you should load the software prior to connecting the device in order to avoid a number of issues.  While the software does support Windows Vista, the software was installed and tested on one of my test systems with WinXP.

Upon successfully installing the software, it will load an icon on your sys tray that allows convenient access to all its main features.  Again, most of these, including all the maintenance features, are actually capable of being executed directly from the printer itself via the impressive LCD screen.  You can also easily keep an eye on the status of the print cartridge from here as well.

Their software consists primarily of two main option menus.  The first allows you to tweak its layout, color options and quality.  The second will present you with all supported maintenance features that can also be executed from the printer itself.

In addition to Epson's own software, it was no surprise that they chose ArcSoft to handle all its picture management features.

The main app included is ArcSoft's PhotoImpression 6.  While not something I would personally use myself, it is basically a photo management tool that allows you to store, edit and manage all your pictures.

You can select any picture and easily execute the red-eye reduction feature if needed. You can also configure an activate a slideshow feature to review all pictures taken.

For those not familiar with advanced or popular image editing software or even some very common office applications capable of providing the same features, this software will simplify the process of editing and customizing any of your photos.  You can add text and callouts, as well as some borders and additional decorations to any.

In addition to PhotoImpression 6, they also include a basic version of ArcSoft's Print Creations that will allow you to create calendars from your photos.
