Logisys Pitbull 500W Power Supply

Model:  PS500PITBK

Manufacturer:  Logisys Computer

Provider:  Logisys Computer

Power supplies are probably one of the most overlooked and under appreciated components in a computer system. In the last few years however, the pre-modded power supply has appeared and has become much more mainstream. Today, I have one of the latest designs from Logisys Computer – The Pitbull. Available in three chrome finishes and boasting 500W of peak power and doing all of this for less than 50 bucks certainly merits taking a look!

The box is very similar to the one that the Acrylic model we looked at a while ago came in…not a bad thing. The box is adorned with pretty colors and lots of propaganda.

Empting the box onto the table revealed the power supply itself and a power cord.

Removing the Pitbull from the bubble wrap, I was very pleasantly surprised to find that both my suggestions regarding the Acrylic power supply had apparently been heeded. The Pitbull has plenty of connectors and about as full a sleeve job as I’ve ever seen come from a manufacturer. The only shortfall was the lack of the new PCI Express connector…although that probably will not hinder sales of this unit for some time yet.

The chrome finish and dual windows are very sharp, although it made keeping both myself and my camera out of the shots a bit of a challenge! I made sure to take a picture of a model motorcycle sitting on top of the Pitbull to allow you to see what I mean.

So, the next check was to plug it in and check to see how loud it was. The Pitbull is not a silent power supply, although with the main 80mm fan turned all the way down it is not likely that you’ll hear it over the din of the rest of the computer. However, it does get pretty noisy with the fan up all the way. The addition of the chrome speed knob is a nice touch…you will be able to set the Pitbull to a tolerable volume. I was a little surprised to notice that the 80mm fan is the only source of light…I’m surprised the 40mm fans are not lit as well.
