External Hard Drives are usually much more
expensive than their counterparts, and even if you do opt for one from a
drive manufacturer, they tend to not focus on overall aesthetics and usually
are quite unappealing in design. Chances are, a majority of PC users
have an extra internal drive lying around that can be put to good use.
That's where external exclosures can be an inexpensive solution to portable
storage. The new Vantec NexStar 3 touches on overall design as well as
function. With its sleek, low-profile styling, this hot-swappable enclosure
will appeal to users looking for style, quality and overall functionality.

The
NexStar comes in a rather spiffy box which includes a power adapter, power
cable, USB cable, vertical stand, mounting screws, driver disc and user

Its
mirror-like finish certainly makes it one of those products that is had to
photograph. While it is available in a variety of other finishes, the
model we are looking at today is Onyx Black with chrome trimming. As
most of our avid readers know by now, I'm not a fan of chrome on
electronics, but in this case, it certainly does look great.

The
rear of the unit is where you'll find the USB and power connector as well as
your on/off switch. The front is fairly uneventful with the exception
of the Vantec logo, which will act as your HD activity when connected.
