MP3 players have quickly evolved into much
more than just portable music players. There are a growing number of
companies releasing PVP or PMP players that offer a wider range of playback
support and features. Most are designed to play and handle just about
any media file out there, including video. However, this kind of
functionality usually comes with a hefty price tag. Most portable media
players can cost up to $700 depending on its quality, features and size.
Fortunately though, there are companies out there that do have those gadget
lovers on a budget on their mind. One such company is NHJ. Based out
of Tokyo Japan, the company focuses primarily on portable audio and they
have some suitable options on the market for those craving more than just an
MP3 player but don't want to put a dent in their wallet. The MPM-201
may not be the smallest PVR on the market, but equipped with a TV tuner in
its included docking station, this portable media player offers much more
than almost all of its main competitors.

Considering all the features this PVR offers, lots of goodies are
included in the box. They include a very nice docking station, battery
pack, power adapter, USB cable, A/V RCA cables, S-Video cable, remote
control, earbuds, manual an software CD.

This player certainly won't win
any design awards but despite its large footprint, it is surprisingly light.
The front features a large 3.5" LCD with 480x234 pixels. On the left front side you'll find your navigation controls, menu button and
back button. On the right you'll find the volume control as well as
your play/stop buttons. The rear is uneventful except for a cleverly
implemented pull-out stand for hands-free viewing.

On
the bottom of the player you'll find the compartment for the odd-looking
battery pack as well as the dock port which can be closed to prevent
unwanted dust build-up. Now, one
very interesting feature on this unit is its support for flash media.
Yes, the top has a slot cover that will reveal both compact flash & SD
card slots. This is a nice feature not only as a means for expansion,
but for easy picture transfers on-the-go from your digital camera. The
power/lock switch and mic are also located on the top of the unit.

Finally, you'll find some other ports on the left hand side of the player.
These include a mini USB port, DC power connector and headphone jack which
also functions as your A/V in jack.
