Optical Mouse LED Replacement Guide - Continued...

Why remove the PCB? Well on the pic below I have highlighted the two plastic housings that surround the LED's.  In order to remove these, you'll need to gain access to them from the bottom of the board.

With the LED's now exposed, gently heat each side of the LED's carefully pulling on them until they are removed from the PCB.  Take your time.  This is actually the hardest part of the whole mod.

Next step is to take your new LED's and stick them in the holes where the old LED's were originally.  Remember your positive side is the longer end of the LED.   You may need to heat the soder points in order to get each side in the holes.  Just heat one side first as you push down on the LED.  Once both side are in, you'll need to find the proper length and trim the excess ends off and then simply solder each end to the PCB from the bottom of the board.

The picture below shows the new LED's in place and bended at the proper angle:

Next we will carefully pop in the plastic housings back into place as shown below:

Your done!  Now simply screw the board back onto the back housing.  We will know check to see if they work!  Let's plug the mouse in and see...

They work! Don't they look great??    Ok now unplug your mouse and continue to put everything back together.  Just follow in reverse order.  A shot of everything in it's place below:
