Logisys Meshed 500W Power Supply

Model:  PS500MSBK

Manufacturer:  Logisys Computer

Provider:  Logisys Computer

Today I get to check out another pre-mod power supply from Logisys Computer. Although we’ve seen power supplies chromed, painted, and clear, we’ve never seen one that was meshed! With 500 watts of juice and a low price tag, is this a good contender for your system? Let’s check it out and see!

Packaging and Contents

My review box arrived looking a little beat up…all was well with the power supply inside though, so it passed the test!

Although the black mesh look of this unit is limited to the bottom (if it were mounted), it is rather striking. The box only contained the power cord and the unit itself.

One of the first things that I usually look at is the connectors. With this unit, the cables are rather short on both length and connectors. There are only four Molex connectors, and the main ATX power connector is one of the shortest I’ve seen. It does have a removable set of four pins, to ensure compatibility with the next generation of motherboards. The unit oddly has a six pin auxiliary connector instead of the newer PCI Express 6 pin. There is only one mini Molex connector, which may be a headache as well if you have a video card that requires one and a floppy.

I plugged in a jumper and the unit fired up immediately. The Mesh Power Supply features an extra plug on the back, but does not have an on/off switch. The plug is handy to have, but I’m not sure that I’d trade it for the switch.
