Razer Lycosa Programmable Gaming Keyboard Review

Conclusions

The latest keyboard from Razer is certainly one that will turn heads.  Its appealing, high-tech design will blend in well with most modern systems.  This keyboard is as pleasing to use as it is on the eyes.  The bundled software will allow you to fully customize any of its keys and its backlighting is excellent and keys are fully legible under any lighting environment.  You also have macro key assignments and up to ten custom profiles to create.  While primarily designed for gamers, this keyboard will also appeal to a wider range of computer users.  Keys can be be individually assigned to launch any executable program and its touch-sensitive media panel is a pleasure to use and a very nice final touch.

However, there are a few things you'll want to know about this ultra-slim keyboard.  First off, while the key backlighting is one of the very best I've seen, you definitely want to have it on at all times.  You really can't make out the lettering without it, even under pretty intense florescent lighting.  It will practically be like typing on a laptop-style version of the infamous DAS keyboard!  Second thing are those rubber-like, laptop-style keys.  They may not be for everyone.  While this keyboard is highly responsive, the "non-slip" keys are actually quite slippery.  Also, if you are coming from a standard keyboard, you'll have to get used to the laptop-style keys.  Once you do though, it is a pleasure to type on.  The only other minor gripe I personally have is that the keys are quite noisy.  This is usually not a major concern for many but for those late night sessions, the noise from the keys will quickly be apparent.

In the end though, its sleek design, excellent touch sensitive media panel and fully programmable keys earns our recommendation.
