VIZO Luxon 3.5" IDE/SATA Hard Drive Enclosure Review

Model:  LUX-350SA-BK

Manufacturer:  VIZO

Provider:  VIZO

Reviewed By:  Miguel

Review Date:  06/25/06

While I have just started working with VIZO, I have quickly discovered that not only are their products unique, but they manage to put a great deal of thought into each, providing a higher level of functionality when compared to other products in its class.  The Master Panel I recently reviewed was a perfect example.  Today though, I'm looking at their latest hard drive enclosure that is truly unlike a majority on the market.  The Luxon is a 3.5" enclosure not only supports two interfaces, but allows you to connect your drive using any of four available methods.  Sounds intriguing?  Read on...

Now, VIZO certainly does not skimp on bundled accessories and provides more out of the box than any enclosure I've taken a look at.  Included with it is a power adapter, power cable, IDE power cable, SATA extension bracket, external SATA cable, internal SATA cable, internal IDE cable, screws, stand, driver CD and user manual.  There is even a quality leather-like cleaning cloth provided.

Design - A quick glance

The Luxon is certainly not the smallest enclosure on the market, but it is appealing nonetheless.  It is available in three colors but the one reviewed here is their two-tone silver/black model.  It does sport a quality glossy mirror finish with the product name and logo on one side along with labeled jacks, both in an attractive aluminum style finish.  Despite its size, it is an overall attractive product that will certainly blend in well with today's modern computer or home entertainment setups.

The top front does feature a lighted strip that serves as an activity/status LED.  To blend in well with modern setups, the LED is blue.  The rear of the unit features your DC power jack, power toggle switch, USB jack and an SATA jack.  Yes, an SATA jack that I will cover in detail on the install portion of this review.
