Logisys Computer LAN Bag Review

Model:  LPBAG

Manufacturer:  Logisys Computer

Provider:  Logisys Computer

Introduction

Making your desktop mobile for LAN parties has always been a little bit of a challenge. Either you just pick it up and carry it, or you shell out some good dollars to get yourself a proper LAN bag. Logisys has recently offered up an interesting LAN bag system that not only will take care of even the most massive case and your LCD, but will do it for fewer than 20 dollars. I know I was interested, so let’s check it out!

Packaging and Contents

As would be expected with the low price tag, the whole system came in an unremarkable plastic bag.

Opening it up, the only contents were these two components, one for your hot new 16ns LCD display and the other for your case. The bag for the LCD is very simple. The inside of the nylon square is padded and has a soft surface that won’t scratch the face of the screen. All that needs to be done is to loop the two straps around the back of the screen, and tighten them down. A good solid handle is also attached to the top, along with two loops that can accommodate a carry strap even though one was not provided.

The case harness is almost as simple. It features the same handle and carries strap loops as the LCD carry bag does, with the addition of two more carry strap mounting points a little farther down the strap. Operation is very simple here also, as all that needs to be done is wrap the two straps around the case and tighten. No padding on the inside of the straps is evident, so if you’re paranoid about your paint or windows a terry cloth could be placed over the case before attaching the harness to prevent damage. It still would have been nice to have integrated protection, however.

Fitting

The carry strap can easily accommodate cases much larger than the X-Bag CTSSL that I tested not long ago. So, I strapped up the exceptionally large and heavy Silverstone Temjin 5 and my NEC Multisync LCD 1765 display and proceeded to move them around to get a feel for how well they handle the load.

As mentioned before, the LCD carry system is very easy to install. Just wrap the two straps around the monitor, and tighten down the straps. The only thing that was really missing was some way to store the cables, if they can’t be detached like is the case with the NEC 1765.

The main carry strap works in a similar manner with a computer case. Wrap the two straps around the case and tighten. The Temjin 5 is a heavy case with a full system installed…I’d guess this one weighs close to 45 pounds. With this amount of weight, the reinforcement strip underneath the handle actually flexed and applied a painful amount of pressure to my little finger. However, the system is easily capable of handling even the largest case and with a suitable shoulder strap even a heavy case like the Temjin 5 would be manageable. I’m still a little surprised that one was not included with the setup.
