With the gaming/modding community, it’s almost
as much about flash as it is about function. Otherwise, we sure wouldn’t
have nearly as many websites out there selling almost every kind of light
imaginable for our rigs! Last week, Logisys Computer asked me to check out
two of their latest light creations – a 120mm dual CCFL fan and a massive
15” cold cathode tube. Worth buying? Read on and find out!
Packaging & Contents

Only the fan arrived in a blister package…the 15” tube was merely in bubble
wrap. The first tube I received from them was indeed damaged, but it was
internal in nature, and I’m not sure if even the excessive packaging of the
second tube they shipped me would have prevented it. Still, Logisys was very
quick to fix the situation.

The
fan is pretty massive. 120mm is not small, and tack on another half of that
depth for the dual ring CCFL and you get some idea of how big this sucker
is. Each tube has its own plug, both of which can be attached to the
supplied inverter. The usual stuff was in the package – Velcro for mounting,
and PCI plate with on/off switch and sound threshold knob. There’s no
adaptor, as this unit has a plug on it that accepts either the four or three
pin style connectors.

Plugging it all in, we got quite the light show. This fan is VERY
bright…I’ll demonstrate that a little later in the review. The fan, as it
should be, is quiet as well.

The
15” CCFL is really big. Seriously. You’re going to need a massive case in
order find enough room to mount this thing. A 12” tube can be fun to try and
mount sometimes, but this one you’re going to need to plan out in order to
use. Plugging all of the supplied hardware in showed that this tube actually
has some nice color to it, and is not as ‘washed out’ as some of the CCFLs
I’ve seen in the past have been. It’s still not as pure a blue as one would
get from the usual blue LED, but it is certainly bright.

One
nice addition to the 15” tube was the inverter. It is a slightly opaque
plastic and is lit internally with a blue LED. I was a little surprised that
this kind of inverter wasn’t supplied with the fan.
