Conclusions

The SST-LC13 is not the perfect HTPC case,
although it is very close. My two main gripes are closely related…temperatures
and fans. The dual 60mm fans should be removed, and replaced with an 80mm fan.
Not only do they tend to perform better, but there are many more options for
replacement. On this model I can understand it is a limitation of the
structure, but it should be kept in mind for the next chassis they build. I
found myself wishing there was at least a filtered intake just over where the
CPU as well. Overall layout is very good, and enough things are removable to
make installation fairly easy. Having the extra 3.5” bay available for either
an extra hard drive or card reader is a nice touch, and welcome flexibility.
This chassis looks very sharp, and will fit in pretty much the same space that
your average A/V amp will. Although the LC13 is not available at most of our
favorite online vendors just yet, the few places I have seen it show a price
just over $100.00USD. Considering the premium price most HTPC boxes demand
this one is a pretty decent bargain. The further adventures of this particular
LC13 will be available in a work log on our forums, and you can always head
over to
Silverstone’s website if you need more information about this product. EM Recommended!
