Conclusions

The VGear LANDisk is not your average hard drive
enclosure! It will certainly put that spare hard drive you have lying around
to good use. It is basically and inexpensive standalone solution to
file sharing. Once it is configured properly, you can easily share
your files without relying on a computer at all. Considering the growing number of
broadband users, chances are most have routers in their homes. The LANDisk
will seamlessly integrate with your home network. Simply
connect the LANDisk to your router and you can administer or access it from
any computer. Its high-tech design and unique functionality
does set it apart from a majority of hard drive enclosures currently on the
market. In fact, it is the only enclosure that does primarily focus on
network connectivity while maintaining that high-tech look to compliment
most current systems and/or components quite well. While it is
primarily design to be extremely easy to use, they still provide excellent documentation
in a variety of languages. Its write speed certainly did impress, but
the read tests were much less desirable. This was partly due to its
support for only FAT32 formatted drives. However, its very appealing
design, ease of use, and unique functionality earns my recommendation.

Unfortunately, this is yet another product that
has quickly sold out at
Geeks.com, who kindly provided the sample for review. This has
been brought to their attention though and they will do their best to get
more in stock. In the meantime, keep an eye on their line of
drive
enclosures for updates and similar products.
