Performance
The LANDisk does not set your drive as a
separate drive letter on your system.
It cannot be accessed in this fashion. It is intended solely to function
as an independent network drive. With that said, you can't run
synthetic benchmarking tools to measure performance. However, for
performance testing, I will be using one of my very favorite disk bench
utilities, DiskBench. This is a tool I prefer to use over all others
and is a utility designed to measure real life transfer rates. This
application will allow you to create an image file of a user specified size
and allow you to transfer to and from the device you are testing in order to
capture true read/write transfer rates and times. Keep in mind that I ran
these tests multiple times to ensure accuracy.

Unfortunately, the FAT32 file system is not the
best for large file transfers. This format works well for smaller
files. You'll see a perfect comparison in some of my
DVD writer
reviews. The results above are not that bad, but nowhere near the
performance of the
NetDisk I looked at a while back. Keep in mind that
these tests are purely to give you an idea of what to expect.
Performance will vary greatly based on the drive used and the quality of
your network. The results were very consistent in the write tests.
However, things got a bit off track with the read tests, particularly with
larger files. This is not entirely the fault of the product or drive,
but rather the file system that is supported. FAT32 does not handle
large files very well.
