VGear LANDisk Network Hard Drive Enclosure

Model:  LANDisk

Manufacturer:  VGear

Provider:  Geeks

Reviewed By:  Miguel

Review Date:  10/19/05

As the internet community continues to grow, and more multimedia devices now do offer networking support, the need for an easy way to share files is now more of a necessity rather than a luxury. While there are a majority of options out there, such as the excellent Ximeta NetDisk I reviewed some time ago, they can be rather expensive and simply not an option for those on a budget. That's where the V-Gear LANDisk comes in.  It is the first hard disk enclosure I've found that fully supports networking. Those looking for a cost-effective and easy way of sharing files will find this product of high interest.

The LANDisk, despite how easy it is to install and use, comes with excellent documentation.  Also included with the unit is a power adapter, modified IDE and power cables, and even a precision screwdriver.

Design

This unique hard drive enclosure does sport a very appealing design...

Practically the whole enclosure is made of aluminum and of the highest quality.  The front has a black mirror-like plastic panel that reveals the status LEDs.  The rear of the unit has the standard RJ-45 LAN jack, power connector, reset switch and on/off switch.

Both sides of the enclosure as well as the nice looking base are made out of aluminum with a quality silver finish.  Overall, the unit does not, by any means, feel or look cheap and will compliment modern systems or multimedia components quite well!
