ATTO Disk Benchmark
Note that in order to get decent scores in WinXP
with ATTO, we had to convert to dynamic disk.

The IBM 36Z15 measured in at 43989 in both read
& write tests.
WinBench99
Finally, we will run low-level tests and
WinMarks using WinBench 99.
First, the low-level tests:
| Disk Transfer Rate: |
Beginning = 49100
Ending = 40800 |
| Disk Access Time: |
5.89 Milliseconds |
| Disk CPU Utilization: |
1.46% |
The results were impressive. Results were
better than those recorded with HDTach. Disk transfer rates remained in the
40's and access time was again measure at a low 5.9ms. CPU usage was a
mere 1.46%.
WinMarks:
Business Disk WinMark 99: 8920 Thousand
Bytes/Sec
High-End Disk WinMark 99: 23600 Thousand Bytes/Sec
The winmark scores were impressive as well!
They are higher than those that have been recorded from Seagate Cheetah X15
Drives.
Conclusion
The IBM Ultrastar 36Z15 is fast! Seagate
was the first to introduce a 15K hard drive. IBM now jumped in with the
Ultrastar series 15K drives. Not only do they perform well and offer
incredibly low seek times, but they are also quite affordable! So you
ask, how much will I pay for SCSI performance? Well, this deal from
hypermicro ended up costing only $119. That's right! That will get
you not only the SCSI drive itself, but the controller card and adapter as
well! That's actually less expensive than most high capacity IDE
drives in the market today! Those looking for an inexpensive SCSI setup
that won't break the bank, look no further.
With it's impressive performance and incredibly
low price, the IBM Ultrastar 36Z15 earns the Extreme Excellence Award!
