One of the most highly anticipated computing products of the year are
certainly the
new Double/Dual Layer DVD writers. They have gained quite a bit of
interest among a number of PC and video enthusiasts. We previously
looked at the excellent Lite-ON SOHW-832S and were impressed with its
performance and features. Today, however, we are pleased to bring you a
review of the first 12x triple format DVD writer to hit the market, the LG
GSA-4120B. While many companies have been releasing their 12X and
double layer drives separately, LG had other plans in mind with their latest
DVD writer. This drive offers you the best of both worlds, 12X write
support as well as double layer writing. On top of that, it also
supports DVD-RAM writing, providing the highest media support of any drive
currently available. This is surely impressive, but just how well does
it perform? Let's find out...

Our sample did not come in its full retail

The drive features a unique two-tone
white/silver bezel that will compliment those with silver cases quite well.
It is unclear as to whether or not LG has released a OEM black bezel model. I'm not fond of white, but the distinct features of this
drive is certainly appealing.

The dimensions are of standard size. The
Lite-ON double layer drive, shown on the right, is significantly shorter and is the only
drive of its size that I have come across.

The drive's label had a
manufacture date of May 2004.
