One item
that will really make or break your overclock is the RAM. It’s been said
many times before, but there is so much truth to it that it bears repeating.
Especially for the Intel crowd, having high performance memory that can hang
in there with a high front side bus without a divider can pay huge
performance dividends. Today, I have a set of high performance modules from
OCZ, a very familiar name to those in the enthusiast market. This particular
pair is a 1 Gigabyte kit of OCZ’s EL 3200 Gold series. So what kind of
performance can you really expect? Read on!

The
3200 Gold modules arrived in a small blister pack, with little more
information than a list of accolades on the back.

As
RAM goes, these are very sharp looking. The Gold finish on the copper heat
spreaders looks like a mirror, and the modules have a solid weight to them.
Although heatspreaders are not nearly as effective on DDR RAM as they are
for Rambus, It is still nice to have them to protect the chips themselves
from the rigors of handling.

The small sticker attached to each stick says it all…2-2-2-5. Running at these
tight timings at a high FSB will really boost performance. The BH5 chips
that are standard equipment on these modules do require higher than normal
voltage to achieve this however.
