CoolIT Freezone Liquid Chill CPU Cooler Review

Conclusions

Water + TEC...Brilliant!

Simply put, the CoolIT Freezone is an overclockers dream.  It is seriously that impressive!  In fact, there hasn't been a PC cooling solution that has impressed me this much in a very long time and unless you're willing to spend a considerable amount of money on a phase change solution, this is honestly the next best thing.  I'll be quite honest here and say that when I was at CES visiting their booth, and they stated it is the best cooling kit out there, I had my doubts by simply looking at the product.  However, after extensive testing, I can confirm the validity of their statement.  This small kit is really all you need to push your high end system to new levels.  The temp readings were truly remarkable overall.  Its excellent cooling performance resulted in new records in terms of overclocking.   Running an AMD 3700+ 2.2GHz processor at just over 3GHz with excellent stability was a real treat and quite unexpected.  It also outperformed two other popular watercooling products when testing on an older 875P setup and allowed me to push them slightly higher as well.

In terms of installation, the Freezone is one of the easiest kits to install and you'll be up and running in no time.  It was able to fit (barely) on a small case like the NZXT Trinity.  This means you should have no problems installing the kit on a larger chassis.  The included installation instructions are very thorough with plenty of pictures to guide you through the process.

So what is really not to like about the Freezone?  Well, the only thing really is its price tag.  At $399, this is a kit that not many can afford.  However, if you were able to spend your hard earned money on a setup particularly for maximum performance, the Freezone is a small price to pay considering its unmatched performance.  The only other minor flaw is the lack of support with cases that feature an 80mm fan mount.  However, considering its targeted consumers, chances are they are running a system that does at least have a 90mm fan mount.

Bottom line...if you're looking for the absolute best cooling performance without resorting to the high cost of phase-change cooling, the Freezone is honestly your very best option.  The CoolIT Freezone earns our highest recommendation and a very enthusiastic "Extreme Excellence Award" for its superior cooling performance, easy install and excellent overclocking potential.

While the Freezone was just featured at this year's CES, I was able to confirm that units are indeed shipping to retailers.  At $399, it is quite on the expensive side but if you are an avid overclocker that is truly serious about taking your system to new levels, the Freezone will certainly impress.  More information on the CoolIT Freezone can be found on the CoolIT Website.
