Ezonics 5.1 Surround Sound Headphones

Installation & Sound Check

Saying ‘installation’ is almost a joke with these headphones. Just plug them in and they work…no drivers needed. The decoder box lights up the Ezonics logo for looks and to let you know the unit has power.

I spent a lot of time over the last week and a half with these things on my head. They are pretty light and comfortable, but after a few hours it is possible to get a little sore from wearing them. I found that just taking the headphones off for a few minutes was generally enough to make them comfortable again.

I played a variety of games as well, including but not limited to Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Hitman: Contracts, GTA Vice City, Unreal Tournament 2004, and Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed. I also watched two movies all the way through – Gladiator and The Punisher.

I was definitely impressed by the ability of these headphones to reproduce surround sound. Imaging was clear and distinct, and more than once I paid these headphones the ultimate compliment by checking over my shoulder because I thought I heard something. These headphones do a decent job of isolating your ear from outside noise, and have a very solid response. The only area I found really lacking was low end bass reproduction, although given the size of the drivers I’m positive the EZ-638 is doing the best it possibly can with what its got.
