The
eXactMat is extremely thin. The main component is an aluminum plate that’s
about 1/16” thick, with the whole thing only being about 2.5mm at the thickest
point. The pad is dual sided, one side for speed, and the other for control.
Both sides clearly display the eXactMat logo and the speed or control marking.
The control side is a little more textured than the speed side. Four feet are
on each corner, and do an excellent job of preventing movement.

Testing

My
testing consisted of a binge of games, of both the fast and slow variety. Max
Payne 2, Hitman 2, GTA: Vice City, Civilization III, and Mechwarrior 4. I used
two different mice with the eXactMat – a generic ball mouse and the Razer
Viper.
One of the items I’ve noticed users complain about with the Viper is a
“jittering” when the mouse is sitting still. I’ve seen the problem with my
Xide-Pad II, and find it more than a little annoying while I’m trying to snipe
something. Up until now, I just turned down the sensitivity until I was done
with whatever I was up to. The eXactMat fixes the problem…I’ve not seen the
problem once since I switched pads.
The ball mouse performed very well on the control side, although it did tend
to slide instead of roll on the speed face of the eXactMat. Even so, unless
you’re using a Boomer, you probably won’t ever see someone using a ball mouse
with this pad!
