Everglide Gear: S-500 Headphones, G-1000 Gaming Mouse & Titan Pad

Model:  S-500;G-1000;Titan

Manufacturer:  Everglide

Provider:  Everglide

Because most of the kind of gear that us gamers truly love seems to be obsolete every couple of months, it’s easy for most of us to overlook that some of our toys can actually wear out. Usually, this is something simple like a mouse pad or a favorite set of headphones. Even though they may not have all the latest technology, these sorts of items can really make or break your overall experience. Since I’m always on the lookout for this stuff, when Everglide offered up their latest headphones, mouse and pad combo, I decided to check them out.

I’ll start off with the biggest end item on the list…the S-500 Professional Gaming Headphones. The box is nice enough, and the headphones themselves are pretty large and, as you can see in the photos, well padded. They almost have to be given the weight, but a quick initial fitting seemed to indicate that most of it is borne by the top of your head and should do all right for long term wear. The audio cable is pretty thick and rigid compared to a lot of the headphones on the market…it’s just a shade more rigid than that of the Icemat Siberia. Like the Siberia, the S-500 uses a clip on microphone, but does not offer the nifty in-line clips that kept the two wires from getting fouled up. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the clip on microphone.

G-1000 Professional Gaming Mouse

The next major end item is the G-1000 Professional Gaming Mouse. The style of this thing is decidedly different from the sleek, curvy, and high backed designs coming out from the main leaders in this market. About the nearest I can describe it is as a two tone angled oval. Compared to how light some gaming mice can be, the G-1000 has a fair amount of weight, and is solidly constructed. The buttons fore and aft of the scroll wheel are straight out of Logitech’s playbook, and there are two more buttons on the left side of the mouse. Speaking of, if you’re left handed you’ll not want to deal with this mouse unless you’ve managed to train your right hand well enough to use a mouse…the design is just not very accommodating. With a maximum 1600 dpi resolution, this mouse is not going to knock off the latest offerings from Razer and Logitech for most of the FPS crowd, but seems to be better suited to an MMORPG such as World of Warcraft or Everquest. Still, 1600 dpi is no slouch, and if you’re just a casual FPS gamer it should be sufficient. Another interesting thing to note about the G-1000 is that the buttons are slightly raised from the surface of the mouse…typically the buttons are flush with the surface.

The next item is the massive Everglide Titan mousepad. As the pictures demonstrate, this thing is just as big as the massive Ripper XL.  I’m not complaining at all…aside from the Razer eXactMat, the Ripper XL is one of my all time favorite pads. There are a few small differences, which may be of interest to the more picky readers we have out there. First, the Ripper XL’s surface is almost silken, whereas the Titan’s surface has a little more texture to it and a rougher feel. The Titan is also a shade thicker than the Ripper XL. Everglide certainly gets style points for the nice tin that the Titan ships in…it will make storing whichever of these two pads I’m not using much easier. The Ripper XL didn’t come with anything more than a cardboard tube.

The last item Everglide sent us was a package of ultra slick Teflon mouse feet. These are apparently pre cut for the Razer Diamondback and Copperhead, but since these two mice ship with Teflon feet to start with I have my doubts as to whether these will have any effect at all. We will, of course, try them out so that you will have a better idea of whether these are worth your consideration.
