Part 1 - Continued

 

The top of the case shows the 120mm exhaust fan. Notice the wires sitting on top of the Coolermaster HDD bay cooler.  We will attach a 4” blue cold cathode here in order to balance out the cases’ lighting.

At this point let’s take a closer look at some of the components in the drive cage.  Here is a picture of the Western Digital HDD we modded for this project.

Here is a picture of the lighting effects from the LED in the CD player.

The case sits on a 1”X1” solid acrylic rods that frame the bottom of the case.  The frame features 45 degree miter cuts. To add to the lighting effects, the frame has el wire running throughout its length.

That concludes Part 1.  Part 2 will take an in depth look at the cooling system. That will be the installment in this series where the old engineer and the young I.T. Manager (Miguel) will take both a technical and philosophical look at this often times confusing subject.  Yes, we will have analysis, test results, benchmarks, data, and maybe even a graph or two.
